The Microscopy Society of America

About Us

The Southeastern Microscopy Society (SEMS) is a professional scientific organization bringing together microscopists from the life, medical, and physical sciences. Dedicated to advancing research and discovery, the Society promotes the use of microscopy and related methodologies to explore the frontiers of science.

Founded in 1964 by a group of electron microscopists from across the Southeast, SEEMS (Southeastern Electron Microscopy Society) began as a forum for sharing knowledge, techniques, and insights in the field. Over the decades, the Society has broadened its scope and evolved its name to reflect the expanding capabilities of microscopy and the changing needs of the scientific community it serves.
